It's a fun, friendly and relatively inexpensive way to get out and enjoy the hills and mountains in the UK.
We welcome everyone interested in mountain and hill walking, at all levels including beginners.
You can try out one weekend before you join the club, or as many day walks as you like, just to make sure it's for you.
We have a monthly pub meet to catch up with each other and to welcome prospective and new members - just turn up!
Day walks are also organised and prospective members are especially welcome - just turn up!
A comprehensive monthly newsletter.
Training weekends, e.g. navigation or occasionally rock climbing.
London social events such as the monthly pub meet and Christmas dinner.
Affiliation to the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), BMC third party liability insurance and receipt of the BMC's Summit magazine.
10% discount from some leading Outdoors shops.
Meeting like-minded people. Many Ibexes take mountain and hill walking holidays abroad, and in the last few years some have teamed up to climb mountains in Pakistan, walk the GR20 in Corsica, spend Christmas in Morocco, and attended club trips to the Alps, among others.
We head off to the hills on a Friday evening, sharing cars or arranging to pick up from a train station at the other end.
We cook and eat as a group - everyone helps and the standard of food is very good (usually outstanding), plus we enjoy the odd glass of wine or beer. If there are no catering facilities, we'll eat and drink at a local pub.
Usually there is a selection of walks arranged which anyone is welcome to join, but you can do your own thing if the walk is too long/short/easy/strenuous etc.
Most Ibexes go out whatever the weather, but a few of us have been known to head for tea shops or pubs when the weather gets bad!
A wide variety of accommodation is used: bunkhouses, mountaineering huts, hostels, camping barns or campsites. This is specified in the newsletter once booking opens for the weekend.
The cost of accommodation is kept to around a maximum of £15 per person per night or less (it is often much less if the accommodation is full) plus food, drink and travelling costs.
For a flavour of our weekends, see a selection of Ibex weekend write-ups.
Come to one of our pub meets (see the Ibex Diary).
Print a membership application form from the Forms page and mail it to the Membership Secretary. Either pay by standing order or enclose a cheque for the appropriate amount (see The money bit below).
Most of our members either live or work in London, but we have a few members around the country too.
Our ages are very varied and we welcome everyone age 18 or over as members.
You will find all types of people, but all have a love of the outdoors in common.
See the photos in the Gallery - we're a mixed bunch!

Standing Order: Prospective members and existing members paying by standing order benefit from a fixed membership fee for 3 years. Members are "immune" from membership increases during this 3 year period (with one exception, that being of a significant increase in BMC fees which Ibex has to pay to the BMC).
A standing order mandate (obtainable from the Membership Secretary) needs to be completed and sent to your bank with this option. Please fill in the mandate as follows:
Enter your bank details (name of bank, address of bank, name of account, sorting code, account number)
Enter the appropriate membership fee in the Amount box and in the Amount in words box
Enter your name (one name is fine for joint members) in the Quoting Reference box
Enter the date of first payment in the Date of first payment box as follows:
Existing members (normal renewal): 31st January year
New members joining February - September: Two weeks after mandate is being sent to bank
New members joining October - January: 31st January year
Sign the mandate and date it
Please contact the Membership Secretary for any queries relating to the standing order mandate form. In addition to sending the standing order mandate to your bank, please complete an Ibex Membership Application form (see Forms page) and send it to the Membership Secretary (address on form).
Cheque: Membership may be paid by cheque for the appropriate amount, made payable to Ibex M.C. Please send the cheque with a completed Ibex Membership Application form (see Forms page) to the Membership Secretary (address on form).
Additional notes for new and prospective members can be found on the Other Info part of the website.
